Michael Baker
Michael Baker is an Oxford-educated historian and award-winning screenwriter who created Unknown Warriors to bring the latest scholarship on the two world wars to a wider audience.
He graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Modern History and a B.Litt in English, then worked in TV and film for some 25 years, first as a documentary maker, then as a screenwriter in the UK, Europe and America. Along the way he wrote well-received non-fiction, from biography to social history.
From the early 2000s he taught modern, early modern and medieval history at schools and colleges in London. His Understanding History podcasts aim to reintroduce, in an accessible way, the nuance and complexity that major narratives of the past have lost.
